Wisconsin Mutual Insurance Company was organized in 1903 under the name of Wisconsin Tornado Mutual Insurance Company. Initially located in Milton, Wisconsin, the company changed to its current name and moved operations to Madison in 1946.  The company writes business only in the state of Wisconsin, utilizing over 1,000 agents in 200 agencies. Wisconsin Mutual insures 40,000 properties and 70,000 automobiles in the state with policies written in every county. The company handles all but a few of its claims out of the 6 adjuster offices located throughout the state and the Madison home office. With more than 220 insurance companies writing private passenger automobile coverage in Wisconsin, Wisconsin Mutual ranks 12th in direct written premiums. The company is also one of the top writers in property coverage being 8th in Homeowner premiums and 11th in Farmowner premiums.  In addition to the Automobile, Homeowner and Farmowner packages, the company also writes Fire and Extended Coverage, Commercial Packages, Mobile Homeowner, Umbrella and Other Liability coverages, along with Boats, Recreational Vehicles and other Personal Inland Marine items.
